safer minivan suv
Is a minivan considered safer than a SUV of similar size?
Depends on size of the vehicle and safety features, and maybe crash testing results.
The one clear difference is that SUV’s have a higher centre of gravity, which means in certain conditions they can roll over (quick right left moves, like you might do to avoid a stopped vehicle in your lane and when you pull back into your lane to avoid oncoming traffic).
Some SUV’s are also designed to meet lessor truck safety requirements, while minivans have to meet higher passenger car ratings.
Look for official crash test results and manufacturer details of features and what standards they are designed to meet.
All wheel drive or 4×4′s can be safer in some winter conditions.
