Roadster Summer
Which convertible should I buy for this summer.?
I’m 23 and I recently gained access to a large trust fund. I want to spend a portion of it on a nice roadster. Somewhere in between $90k to $160k. Looking for good advice, I want to buy soon. I’m not concerned with gas mileage, insurance cost, and etc. I’m concerned about performance, looks, and reliability. Right now I’m thinking about a 2007 Merc. SL550, 2003 Ferrari 360, 2007 Aston Martin Vantage or DB9, and maybe even willing to spend $200k for a Lambo. Gallardo. I can’t decide and it’s driving me crazy. Help me, PLEASE!
Plus I’m going to use it mainly for going to malls, clubs, and for weekend cruising.
sK8TER, the LP640 is easily $300k plus. Nearly double what I had in mind. I do understand just how incredible that car is though.
Here is the problem with some of the vehicles you listed: you may be able to afford the initial cost, but how about the maintenance? Here is Ferrari- brake jobs (recommended yearly on the fluid) is 300-600. oil change 200. Major service (every 5-10K miles) on a 360 is close to $6000. How about them apples???
You will have similar headaches with the AM, the Lambo. Not the mercedes. Try it, or try a porsche 911. both have more realistic service intervals. try a brand new corvette convertible. how about a new viper? also, both of these are more service friendly than an italian exotic (or the brit exotic).
think 3 times before you buy the ferrari- you better know exactly what you are getting into.
FWIW- you are the classic example of why I will never place large sums of money into a time-released trust for my children. Think about what 200K will get you invested properly in 20 years. You could lease a 911 with the investment proceeds, and still have the 200K left over to buy some high priced call girls…
