is 2006 BMW 325i with mileage 40000 mile reliable with only factory warranty?
I am planing to buy 2006 BMW 325i.. I do not know is it good option? I have seen cars with near abt 40000 mile. whats the recomended period of changing the timing belt? Whats the yearly other maintainance cost ? can i go for certified or only with factory warranty car?
First of all I would like to point out that this model of BMW does not use timing belt, it uses timing chain and it lasts the whole life of the engine if it is properly maintained.
The key here is the maintenance record. BWM’s are great cars, but very expensive to maintain. Dealership does not do automatic transmission maintenance unless you pay for it additionally so most skip out on that (later will cost you $$$$$$).
My BMW clicked over 200,000 miles and drives like new because I spent over 2,500 in regular maintenance per year since the beginning. Big tuneups will run you twice that amount when you have to replace suspension and steering bushings, shocks, etc. It’s a perfect second hand car for a mechanic who has a garage full of gear at home. Others have to know whats involved before buying one, it is a high maint car.
After I bought my 7 series BMW from it’s first owner who had all records I had to replace a transmission, suspension components and other misc things. Total cost was ~13,000 USD. After that it was excellent.
You should only buy it if it’s still covered by warranty and keep the maintenance up to date. If you are looking for a true drivers car, you will be rewarded.
