Dan Gets a Minivan (Hardcover)
$32.91
In the bestselling and beloved tradition of Dave Barry, a coming-of-middle-age tale by Thurber finalist Dan Zevin, master of “Seinfeld-ian nothingness” (Time) about a man’s inevitable transition into mid-life and fatherhood. The least hip citizen of Brooklyn, Dan Zevin has a working wife, two small children, a mother who visits each week to “help,” and an obese Labrador mutt who prefers being driven rather than walked. How he got to this point is a bit of a blur. There was a wedding, and then there was a puppy. A home was purchased in New England. A wife was promoted and transferred to New York. A townhouse. A new baby boy. A new baby girl. A stay-at-home dad was born. A prescription for Xanax was filled. Grey hairs appeared, grey hairs fell out. Six years passed in six seconds. And then came the minivan. Not just a daddy book, Dan Gets a Minivan is about a guy who happens to be a dad. Acclimating to adulthood has never been his strong suit, and this slice-of-midlife story chronicles the whole hilarious journey—from instituting date night to joining Costco; from touring Disneyland to recovering from knee surgery; from losing ambition to gaining perspective. Where it’s all heading is anyone’s guess, but, for Dan, suburbia’s calling—and his minivan has GPS.

anyone out there owns a Mazda MVP Minivan????
if so do u like it ..does it drive well..what color u have and would u buy it again..and what about space..pro’s and con’s please!!
I own a 2000 Mazda MPV. I’ve had it for about 18 months.
I will never never never buy a Mazda product from a Mazda dealer ever ever ever again. But that’s another story.
Since I’ve owned it, I’ve replaced a windshield that cracked due to cold temperatures, I’ve replaced the alternator ($600 repair at the Mazda dealer), and spent $400 trying to fix a leak in the power steering that keeps coming back…
The biggest problem I’m having is actually finding parts. In it’s current form, the model MPV I’ve got was made for two years, 2000 and 2001. So… unless you plan on buying TWO, one to drive and one for parts… I’d recommend staying away from the MPV.
Mazda no longer makes the MPV, so by buying one, you are committing youself to owning a vehicle that is no longer supported by the dealer (at least the one I went to with mine)… and to having a hard time finding parts if you need them.
*IF* the vehicle were supported better by Mazda… I would recommend it. The design of the engine compartment is more than a little bit screwy… the alternator is waaaaaaaaaaaaay down low where it gets all the water, mud, salt and junk on the road thrown at it… even though Mazda redesigned the alternator… the price they want for it is totally outrageous!!! I also had to replace the factory stereo as it died for some unknown reason. But… the overall drive, appearance, space, seating, and… well… the reasons you buy a van for…. they are all satisfied by the MPV… why Mazda stopped making them is beyond me… and why they won’t support what they DID make is keeping me from going back to them. As soon as my MPV is paid for… I’m getting rid of it (if I can find someone to take it off my hands by then) and then going shopping for a Honda Odessey or a Toyota Sienna.
