just need to put gas into it for a friend; can’t locate an interior release to open the flap and need a clue.

Two possible locations. Check on the floor of the cabin just to the left of the seat by the door opening either on the floor or on the door jam just behind you. That is usually where Ford puts them. There is also usually a manual fuel door opener where the jack is kept.

I would also look at the manual for the van if he has it in the car. It will definately tell you where it is and probably include a picture.
