Why might an engine get bad gas mileage even with regular mantinance takin care of?

Its a 2000 and has odb 2 and no check engine light but it just plains gets bad mileage and its a 2 liter.

Most of your fuel economy depends on how you drive. I swear i get more mileage in my 08 accord than some of the smart car drivers out there that constantly floor it just to get to a red light.
