For people who are going to be driving on a long road trip, is it possible to hook up a video game system like a Sony Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii or Microsoft Xbox 360 to the LCD screen DVD player used in SUV or minivans so people in the back can play games?
Do vehicles like a Toyota Sienna, Honda CRV, Mazda MPV or Ford Escape LCD DVD players have input jackets and power jacks for the PS3/Wii/X360 to connect to?
No, it is not possible to hook up a Sony Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii or Microsoft Xbox 360 to the LCD screen of most default DVD players found in SUV or minivans prior to the model year 2010 due to the fact most default video systems do not have the necessary input jack to connect the audio & video feed of the PS3, Wii, X360.
Yes, it is possible if you get a high end LCD screen DVD player with multiple input jackets that support the video game systems on high end luxury minivans or SUVs. It is also possible to upgrade the video system in the lower end vehicles to get the input jacks. Some newer, not ultra expensive SUV and minivans made after the year 2010 will start to incorporate the input jacks.
The Sony Playstation 3 & Microsoft Xbox 360 can use the following jacks to connect.
1. HDMI – high definition media input – supports 1080p resolution
2. Component AV – 6 input jacks req’d – supports 1080i resolution
3. S-Video – 3 input jacks req’d – supports 480i resolution
4. Composite – 3 input jacks req’d – supports 480p resolution
The Nintendo Wii can use these jacks. Only the composite cables are standard. Others are 3rd party add ons.
1.. HDMI – via a composite to HDMI converter
2. Composite – standard & most popular jack on televisions
Since most minivans and SUVs have a power supply jack in the rear seats, power should not be a problem for the Wii as long as you have the car power adapter to convert the car power jack to that used by your video game system. Some vehicles do not have enough power to sustain game play for the PS3 and X360 as they use a lot more power then the Wii.

Most vehicle LCD DVD entertainment systems only have low resolution screens. Some high end vehicles have medium resolution screens. Of course this will change as technology improves.
