Who gets the new car, my husband or me?
It’s time to buy a new car. We have a 2003 Honda Civic that I drive, which is paid for. My husband has 1980′s Ford “Country Squire” station wagon. He loves this car & calls it a “classic”. I’ve told him it’s a ghetto ride (the interior is blue velour, need I say more?), but he says he’s never getting rid of it.
His car recently broke down and needs $2500 worth of work. I’m tired of him taking my car everyday, so I was thinking we could just get a new car instead of spending 2 grand. I stay at home with our son and I babysit full time, so it made sense to me that I get a minivan and he gets my Civic.
My husband is such a kind person. He works so, so hard and goes to school full-time. Part of me feels like he deserves to have the newer one. But part of me says, “I want the car. I need it because of the kids & groceries, etc.”.
I don’t want to be selfish, but I Idon’t want to share either. Ok – Who gets the car?
Buying a car is always a poor investment unless your dealing in classics. Fix the “Ghetto wagon” and let him keep it. $2500 is a lot cheaper than a new car and you know what you have. If you buy used or even brand new you will have mechanical problems as well. I had an ’85 Country Squire and they are great cars. I was able to get 21mpg out of it on the highway also.
If your going to buy a new car HE gets it. He is the one that has scheduled times to be somewhere. He works away from home plus goes to school. Those are “have to get to on time” places.
